Physical Education Resources

  • K-5 Energizers – Energizers are a collection of classroom based physical activities for grades K-5.  These activities were developed by East Carolina University.

 

  • Middle School Energizers – Classroom based physical activities for middle school students.  Activities are available in the areas of Healthful Living, Language Arts, Math, Music, Science and Social Studies.  These activities were developed by East Carolina University.

 

  • Brain Breaks – Developed for grades K-6, Brain Breaks are lesson plans that integrate physical activity with other subject areas.  They are provided by the Michigan Department of Education.

 

  • Take Time - The Take Time! Teacher Resource Packet is provided to assist teachers with ideas on ways to incorporate 10-20 minutes of physical activity during the school day.  Take Time! was developed by the Maine Center for Public Health, Harvard Prevention Research Center, and the Muskie School of Public Service, with support from the Maine Department of Education, the Maine Department of Health and Human Services and local schools.

 

  • Active Academics – Active Academics provides practical ideas to classroom teachers for integrating physical activity throughout the school day. Lesson ideas are short "10 minute or less" activities that get students moving while practicing content standards in a variety of subject areas.  Active Academics was developed by Eloise Elliott, PhD, Concord University, and colleagues through funds provided by the Cardiovascular Health Program in the WV Bureau for Public Health as part of a grant from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) (2005-2006).

 

 

 

  • JAM School Program - The JAM School Program brings health education and daily activity into the classroom. JAM is designed to teach kids (and adults) healthier lifestyle habits. JAM delivers a weekly one-minute exercise routine called the JAMmin’ Minute and a monthly health newsletter called Health-E-tips.  JAM is a NO-COST program.

 

  • Classroom Teacher Integrated Lesson Plans – These are lesson plans for grades K-12 that can be used to integrate subject area lessons with physical education classes.  These are provided by PE Central.

 

  • PE Central – PE Central has over 1500 health and physical education lesson ideas for grades K-12.

 

  • The Solution Site – The Solution Site has 81 physical education units for grades K-12.  The Solution Site was developed by The EdVenture Group, a 501©(3) organization and it's partners. It was made possible through the WV TurnKey Solution, a U.S. Department of Education Technology Innovation Challenge Grant. The site contains K-12 lesson plans that give students active involvement in their learning.

 

 

 

 

 

 

  • Outdoors Physical Activities – Physical activity handbook for use outdoors for grades 1-9, provided by Alberta Education, Alberta Canada.

 

 

  • Alberta Education Lesson Plans - The Aim of the Kindergarten to Grade 12 Physical Education Program is to enable individuals to develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to lead an active, healthy lifestyle.

 

  • PE Activities – This is a list of physical activities provided by Dr. Donna Woolard of Campbell University.

 

  • Fitness Fun Forever - An interactive, downloadable curriculum aligned with the Florida Sunshine State Standards. The curriculum is designed to get all kids moving. The website includes twenty-seven simple games to get kids moving.
