Understanding the impact of the health of children and adolescents on Mississippi and America's future, the Mississippi Department of Educations (MDE), with generous funding and assistance from the The Bower Foundation, created the Office of Healthy Schools. The Department of Education (MDE) restructured and consolidated its health and safety-related programs under the umbrella of the Office of Healthy Schools.
Through the efforts of the Office of Healthy Schools, the Mississippi Department of Education offers a system of coordinated school health services to 152 school districts to assist them in developing organizations that make the connection between good student health and high academic achievement. The Office of Healthy Schools is responsible for administering the following health and safety related services and programs:
