America Walks and the National Center for Safe Routes to School is hosting a web-based seminar on Tuesday, July 29, 2008 from 2:00 PM - 3:00 PM EDT. This 60 minute webinar will explore

The Mississippi Alliance for School Health (MASH) is hosting the 2008 Mississippi Institute on School Health, Wellness and Safety in Philadelphia, MS on September 23 - 26, 2008. Additional information including a registration form will be posted once it becomes available.
Physical Education Curriculum Analysis Tool (PECAT) training is October 3, 2008 from 9:00 until 3:30 at the MDE Auditorium. PECAT is a standards-based physical education analysis tool designed to help school districts conduct a clear, consistent curriculum assessment. This traning will aid school districts by helping them determine how closely their curriculum aligns with the national standards for quality physical education. Participants for the training should include: Physical Educators in K-12, District Physical Education Coordinators, and Curriculum Coordinators. The training is designed to inform participants about the need and instruction to complete the School Health Index. The Mississippi Alliance for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance held its annual conference on November 9-10th on the campus of Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi. The conference provided a forum for professional development to increase knowledge, improve skills, and encourage sound professional practices for all members and those they serve.
The Alliance's goal of promoting healthy lifestyles was the focus of workshop presentations by teachers, community leaders, health care professionals, and state agency officials. This conference provided ways to enhance professional practice by providing opportunities for professional growth and development of teachers and administrators in the field. In addition, a desired benefit will be the promotion of public understanding of the mission of MSAHPERD.

The BodyWorks program uses a train-the-trainer model to distribute the Toolkit through schools, community-based organizations, health agencies, non-profit organizations, hospitals and health care systems. The program includes one six hour training module for trainers and ten 90 minute weekly sessions for parents and caregivers. On November 8, 2007, there will be a train-the-trainer session given as part of the pre-conference to MSAHPERD which will be held at Mississippi College in Clinton, MS. CEUs will be offered to participants in the training.

2007 Physical Education Implementation Through USTA Tennis Program
The Office of Healthy Schools and the United States Tennis Association have developed a partnership to conduct tennis trainings. These trainings will allow teachers to participate in tennis drills and exercises that they will be teaching to their students as well as learn how to teach tennis in a classroom setting with multiple students. USTA Tennis Instructors will demonstrate how to conduct all the activities that are included in the USTA Tennis Curriculum Guide.
